MODERN ACCOMMODATION
For the foreseeable future, all of my sessions are 100% online via Zoom or telephone, both for therapy and coaching. Sessions typically last an hour, but after working for several months it is possible to move to half-hour sessions and/or 15-minute phone check-ins. The option to text me when in crisis or striving toward a goal can also be factored into the session pricing.
Sex-Positive Sex therapy
Sex therapy is still therapy - we are still processing anxiety, trauma, depression, childhoods, relationships, and positive change. The main distinction is that we're focusing on sexual matters, such as erectile dysfunction, vulvodynia, sexual trauma, infidelity, affairs, pelvic pain, performance anxiety, orgasm difficulty, compulsive and 'addictive' sexual behavior, porn, exploration of kink, non-monogamous relationships, sexual identity, and a host of other things.
I say that I'm sex-positive because it's important to me that nobody feel judged about any aspect of their sexuality or fantasy life. This is crucial when working with someone to develop self-empowerment, self-compassion and self-awareness as they all relate to sexuality. All of these issues can be enhanced whether someone is in a relationship or not, and my clients span various stages of relationship, as well as various gender identities and sexual orientations.
CHRONIC PAIN
Oftentimes medical doctors are unable to find any structural or biological causes of chronic pain and discomfort, and regularly provide a "description" of an issue instead of an actual diagnosis, with words like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, prostatitis, and irritable bowel syndrome. These conditions don’t actually have any agreed-upon diagnostic tests akin to the way we can see cancer cells or a fracture in an x-ray of a broken back, and they are also commonly referred to as psychogenic pain, psychosomatic pain, TMS, and somatic symptom disorder.
Fear of the symptoms never going away can be paralyzing, especially when doctors tell you that you are experiencing a higher level of pain than your situation would warrant. The pain and discomfort are often coupled with depression and anxiety, and the symptoms ramp up when life becomes more stressful. What I and many of my colleagues understand and more and more research is beginning to establish is this: when we get stressed out, our bodies do strange things, no different than getting the butterflies before going on stage, blushing when embarrassed, or developing a headache when kids are going berserk. Let's start reducing your suffering today.
Depression and Anxiety
I work regularly with depression and anxiety in its various forms and manifestations. I utilize cognitive techniques, somatic techniques, mindfulness, social prescriptions,” and encourage people to take advantage of the various books, podcasts, videos, and apps to conquer these very treatable conditions.
